The City of Urbana, in partnership with the University of Illinois and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) awarded a contract to JBCC for the installation of 350,000 LF of fiber optic infrastructure in the City of Urbana.

• The City of Urbana, in partnership with the University of Illinois and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) awarded a contract to JBCC for the installation of 350,000 LF of fiber optic infrastructure in the City of Urbana.
 

• The goal of the project was to bring broadband internet to areas that are underserved or do not have access to broadband services.

• Ninety (90%) of the infrastructure on this project was installed through the residential areas of the City of Urbana via directional boring. 

• The remaining 10% was installed via vibratory plow in the outlying areas of Urbana. 

• The project will be completed with minimal impact to the community, and completed on time and on budget.
